How is it October 2023 already??<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

You can blink and a year has passed, which is why I am writing this blog about a year after the last one \ud83d\ude15<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Since the arrival of Apple, the white coat grey seal, we have had another fifteen pups come into the unit for our care.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As I am so far behind with updates, here is a quick catch-up for you on the winter grey seal 2022-23 season <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Apple was rescued on the 17<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> of November and staying with us until the 9<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> of December where she was transferred to the lovely Hessilhead team in Scotland. She was getting a bit too aggressive for our volunteers, especially as we had our numbers reduced due to illness and injury (a certain person managed to tear his rotator-cuff at work putting himself out of action for three months as an example) She made great progress and was released by them early in the new year<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Blackberry arrived from Alnmouth on the 22<\/span>nd<\/span><\/sup> of November very unwell. Sadly, we lost him on the 28<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> of December to apparent meningitis<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Clementine rolled in on the 22<\/span>nd<\/span><\/sup> too with infected bites, which she made a great recovery from, and was released on the 5<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> of February 2023<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Eggplant was another bitten seal, with an ulcerated eyeball and infected wounds around it. He was released on the same day as Clementine after his treatment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Rescued on Christmas eve, we used the special Christmas fruit name \u2018Sprout\u2019 for our next admission who also had infected eyes, which made us wonder if there was something going on as this seemed to be too much of a coincidence. Released in March 2023 at over double his admission weight, he wasn\u2019t hanging around on the beach when the cage was opened.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Since then, we have had a (deep breath) Jackfruit, Huckleberry, Jaff, Kiwi, Mango Avocado and our last grey seal of the winter, Strawberry! This was a later grey season than usual, with seals coming in well into March.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The team did amazingly well with eleven of the twelve pups we admitted surviving to release<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We then had some time to relax, tidy up, heal and re-stock ready for the Harbour seal season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
